Redesign In Progress

by john on February 9, 2003

So what do you do when your wife and kids are away and you have the house to yourself for the weekend? Well if you are a geek you get up at 4:00AM to do a redesign of your website. Watch your step.

(note from years later – I don’t care nearly about this as I used to.  Just stock WordPress templates for me these days – I want to focus on the content, if and when I ever get around to posting anything new)

Looking good so far. I’m guessing it doesn’t scale well to smaller monitor resolutions, but that’s the price you pay for sidebar navigation.

Ugh, well you are right about that – just had a look at 800×600 and even that isn’t good. I think the days of worrying about 640×480 are over, but I probably should make it work with 800×600.

Yo that shit is looking good. Keep trying new ideas. Links on the sidebar are a particularly interesting approach.

I think you ought to put some margin up top.

It’s a pretty deeply-ingrained design convention; I kept finding myself trying to scroll up.

Looks good. Nice and clean, with a dash of “lush” — no, not that “lush” — like the Amazon — no, no not that Amazon — you know what I mean.

Nice work.

Thanks Keith. Actually I think it is a little too “lush” – I looked at it with a new machine today and was amazed how green my light background was (in the text body). I think I may change it to white. I’ve still got a lot of cleaning up to do but will be out of town for the next few days so it will have to wait until the weekend again…
