Get a Clue Vendors
I get at least 5 vendor calls a day from people trying to sell me some hardware or software product or solution. If you’ve managed to catch me live you have about 30 seconds to catch my interest. If you leave a message you’ve got about 15 seconds to get me hooked otherwise it’s 76 and off to the next message. I respect the salesperson who can handle this well; it is not easy and I certainly wouldn’t want to do it. But please, if you are trying to sell me something and you have to leave a message, do not leave a message like “Hello Mr. John, this is Beth from ABC Network Solutions, please return my call at 888-555-1212 extension 34590.” I suspect they do this because for some people this mysterious message piques their curiosity. But come on, do people really fall for that? I have never heard of you, your return number is toll-free and you have a huge extension. There is no way in hell I’m calling you back.
