Gaming in Ancient Rome

die.jpg

Any RPGers out there? No that’s not just any beat up old gaming die, that’s a beat up old gaming die from ancient Rome. Christie’s “is it auctioning off”:http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/search/LOTDETAIL.ASP?intObjectID=4205385 and expects to get $4-$6K for it. I hope the geek that buys it can abstain from actually using it in next Friday’s game.

  1. Whatever … with all the publicity it’s gotten among the internet geek set, I think it’ll go for ten times that amount.

  2. Some of my earliest game dice, bought before the more durable clear-plastic dice were common, looked more dinged up than this one after only _one_ year, to say nothing of 2,000!

  3. Conspir8or - no kidding, some of my husband’s dice from his first gaming days (jr. high) look more beat up than that one too.
