Jabberings #10

Some weblogs I’ve started reading lately:

“beyond bullets”:http://sociablemedia.typepad.com/beyond_bullets/ – Weblog focused on PowerPoint.
“gapingvoid”:http://www.gapingvoid.com/ – I’ve been familiar with Hugh MacLeod’s brilliant “back of the business card” drawings via “Ben Hammersley’s”:http://www.benhammersley.com/ RSS feed but didn’t realize he had his own site, with great content to boot.
“Publish and be damned”:http://www.duess.com/wordpress/ – Behind the scenes of a start-up.

I’ve installed and configured WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP) so often that I’ve pretty much got it down to an art, but even so I should take another look at FoxServ, an installer that promises to include the latest and greatest of each of those applications, including, according to Deane, Perl, Python and phpMyAdmin. I used an early version of FoxServ a couple of years ago and will be taking another look.

Some great ideas from Dave Pollard on what we could be doing today with “Blogs in Business”:http://blogs.salon.com/0002007/2004/06/30.html#a794 – some great things to think about. And yet another interesting in-depth article from Dave on assessing your own job performance.

Connor took a summer school class called “Junior Aviation and Rocketry” that introduced him and re-introduced me to the magic of Estes Rockets. Tonight I bought a few kits for the both of us. But the Estes site is so bad, so stunningly bad that I couldn’t figure out how to buy anything from them so I went to eBay instead.

All this spam is driving me nuts. I just know “Jay Allen”:http://www.jayallen.org/comment_spam/ is working feverishly to get me working again.

Can’t believe it’s July 1st tomorrow. That sucks. What happened to June?

I just realized that FoxServ doesn’t “take all the above-named parts of the LAMP equation and make them all work together on Windows” like I wrote, because the “L” in “LAMP” is for Linux.

Smooth. “WAMP” — I like it.
