I’m Not Telling

Comment spam has been killing me. Ever since I tried upgrading to the new “MTBlacklist”:http://www.jayallen.org/projects/mt-blacklist/ I’ve been broken. After struggling to get it working for months I finally saw Jay acknowledge that it may or may not work in Windows. So what had been my spam savior was now useless. I shut off comments for awhile but I didn’t like that. I changed the name of the script and that helped a teeny bit. I implemented Brad’s “MT-DSBL”:http://www.bradchoate.com/weblog/2004/11/05/mt-dsbl and that helped a little more. But I was still getting 30-75 a day.

Until a small template change I made this morning. Since then, zero. And I’m not going to say what it was because it is something that once the spammers figure out they will work around. But hopefully by then Jay will have fixed the MTBlacklist on Windows problem.

So if you are a regular reader who runs a weblog on MT and is getting killed by spam just send me an email and I’ll be happy to share.

But I’m not telling here.

[UPDATE] – 3 days and counting, not a single spam. Rejoice.

Remarkably, MT Blacklist, movable type comment spam blocker, appears not to work in windows. Whatever that means….
