Office Phones

I rarely if ever use a desk phone any more. We do have a VOIP initiative going on which has put a Polycom VOIP phone on my desk but the truth of the matter is lately I’ve been preferring to just use my Blackberry. I just got back from 3 days in Chicago where that was all I used when I hoteled in a cube during a couple of those days and I got to thinking about how truly unnecessary a switched phone system is becoming. “Techdirt”:http://techdirt.com/articles/20050119/113212_F.shtml writes about the same phenomena. We use software from “Interactive Intelligence”:http://www.inin.com/ that allows my calls to follow me wherever I am. Having that freedom from the desk phone is very much like the freedom wireless gives you but it’s even more liberating because of how often you just step away from your desk for a few minutes. Your phone roams right along with you. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
