So the Blogger Poker Tournament that I mentioned previously actually was made up of 7 events – 6 prelims with the top 72 people all advancing to the finals this Sunday.
Tonight was the second preliminary, and I’ll be damned if I didn’t just win the thing. And by winning I don’t mean finishing in the top 72 to get the seat, I mean finishing #1 to get the bonus package, which for first place added up to $1,186 worth of prizes. Pretty sweet!
Everyone at the final table was guaranteed at least $430 worth of prizes, which is exactly what 2-9 got as the payouts were not stepped as they usually are. The poor guy in 10th got $82, so as usual most of the money to be made was made at the final table.
Remember, this didn’t cost anything to enter other than to have a blog. Pretty sweet of Pokerstars. And I can play in the other prelims if I want, keeping whatever prizes I can take home beyond the final tourney ticket which I already now have.
I haven’t been playing much poker at all and it has been awhile since I’ve taken down a tournament with this many people – 559. Great feeling, that’s for sure.
For those of you interested in such things, here is the final hand. I think I played it pretty well – I ordered up that turn 4 like nobody’s business
. Prior to the hand I had 76BB and my Baba_Jin had 40BB so we were still pretty deep stacked:

I was only at risk for all of my chips once the entire tournament, early on when I had 7k chips and ran my QQ into KK but rivered a Q to double up and stay alive. Well actually even then I technically wasn’t but it would have dropped my to only 400 chips so that would have been the end.
I really abused the bubbles, and felt as though I had a pretty good handle on my tables. I was at the top of the leaderboard for much of the tournament, at one point having about 3x what 2nd had. I was playing well and of course did get lucky a few times.
Really happy with my play – looking forward to the rest of the series.

Nice job, Malice51! You kept the pressure on – tough to play against. GL in the final on Sunday.
