Every Saturday I’ll be reaching deep into the archives. Or at least trying to, I’ve been missing a few weeks although tonight I did get caught up. In addition to using this as a chance to catch up I also use it as a chance to clean up some meta data on some old posts, so there is a method to my madness. Here is what I was writing about this coming week, five long years ago:

Good Luck To Saint Johns – I wrote this post about Saint Johns’ upcoming battle with powerhouse Mount Union before the game took place and then I updated it with the results, which was an amazing Saint John’s win. I still remember the game, was very fun to watch and the best part was seeing how well coached the kids were by Gagliardi, truly one of the giants of the sport.

The Mushy Middle – When I wrote the post I seemed to be saying that 60% match as the top put me in the middle but I’m actually amazed I had that kind of a match in 2004. This year when I took the test I think Gulianni was on top with something like a 30% match. In any case, I’m still clearly in the mushy middle when it comes to politics. A little bit of both parties please.

Review – Tournament Texas Hold’em – Review of a tournament poker program I bought. I still actually have it but it’s in storage – each year I bring it out and put it in our garage sale but nobody ever buys it.

Using the Google Deskbar – I lamented that even with Google Deskbar being available that I still like doing search directly in a browser. Five years later and I still do.

MTAdSenseStats (NOT) – I pulled a plugin I was going to release that would allow you to show off your Adsense stats but I decided to pull it after getting a notification from Google. I did end up releasing it later though.

Guinness is Good For You – Really? Who knew!?

Cab Fight – Saw a fight break out between a couple of cabbies in Chicago.

Minnesota State Fair – I didn’t go to the fair that year (I didn’t this year either) but that doesn’t mean I can’t live vicariously through someone else.

Getting Greedy – Being new to Adsense I was just starting to figure out how to monetize. I wish I would have started the niche blogs I mentioned at the time, though.

Jonesing for a good book – My first post on selling books, in which I conclude: Selling my own books. It’s sort of like stabbing myself in the chest. Of course I would go on to actually break through this fear and learn to sell my own books on Amazon.

Amazon gets it – Amazon’s order history features put it in a league of it’s own.

Comment Spam Solutions – Starting to get hit with comment spam, I work through a few options. Akismet rules now of course.

Yahtzee – Quick link to a cool online Yahtzee game.

That was a pretty busy posting week, which I guess is to be expected coming off of a vacation like I was five years ago. Not so this year!

Salesforce.com – Salesforce.com introduces their free Personal Edition. At first I thought they stopped offering this but my old post was just linking to an old page – it’s been updated as they do still provide it.

Swimming in Concrete – Turns out what I had heard was right – you can never have enough concrete. Even though we put in a ton extra I wish we had a few more feet behind the diving board.

Adios Caffeine – Wow, it’s been five years since I stopped drinking pots of coffee a day. I still drink a little coffee now and then but mostly it’s decaf to me – and it’s made a huge difference in how much sleep I get now.

Outage – One of the problems of self-hosting your own blog – outages while you are out on business.

Simple Reading Game – A really cool magnetic poetry game where you can use your own word lists – great for helping kids read. Can’t believe my son was in kindergarten when I wrote this. Now he’s in the Boy Scouts!

Deane Goes Offline – Deane Barker shut down his website due to a misunderstanding from another company. Better safe than sorry.

Get a Clue Vendors – A pet peeve of mine – vendors leaving phone messages and not mentioning which company they work for. As if I will be calling them back.

Better than Dominoes – An amazing car ad, maybe on par (but in a different way) with Tiger Woods’ cool commercial where he bounces the ball on his club 50 times before wacking it a couple hundred yards.
